Necessity is the Mother of Invention Aleks Horvat spent years trying to prime his creative juices by writing at local coffee houses in Los Angeles. At first, he found the experience so exhilarating that he wrote the screenplay Sweethearts (starring Janeane Garofalo), which he went on to direct, using a coffee house as the backdrop for the story. Unfortunately, there was a downside to all of this. Horvat nearly ruined his back from sitting for extended periods of time on the cheap wooden chairs, somewhat souring the experience of using a coffee house as his inspirational workspace.
